Greeting card plastic from hell

What is it with the plastic wrapping of greeting cards? Why is it so difficult to take off? Just like those old cd plastic covers. You'd have to either bite the plastic or have really long scissor-like nails to open them.

I tried opening this greeting card I bought and I almost tore the envelope inside into half. I bet it's another Hallmark trick: Make the buyer nearly rip the envelope and even the card itself in half so he/she has to buy a new one again.

It would be easier to just get a piece of bond paper, fold it twice and write something that would make people think you're smart (even though you just copied it from another greeting card) and doodle a malnourished Santa.
