Celebrating 2006

It's 5 days after the new year so I assume it's not too late to greet everyone a Happy New Year. So what exactly is new this year except for the fact that you write 6 at the end of 200 and not 5 anymore?

I don't feel any different. The monday right after new year I woke up late like usual, went to work grudgingly like usual, parked myself in front of my PC surfing and chatting the night away like usual. In other words I didn't feel like it was a new year at all. It's just one more boring day in the life of Chrissy.

Sure the new year gives us all a reason to prepare all kinds of fruits and dishes that we would not even eat because one of our new year resolutions is to go on a diet, make a whole vat of fruit salad (apparently a must at all new year celebrations), get ourselves drunk with cheap champagne and wine, and spend thousands of pesos so we can light up beautiful fireworks that pollute the air and could result in a couple of stiff necks.

It's the same routine over and over again and again everytime the clock strikes 12 on the 31st of December.

So again, what exactly is happy and new this time around?

The debts I have this year are still the same (or now even more) than what I had last year. The rich are still rich and the poor, still poor.

But with that cheap champagne flowing like the Pasig river, by the time it strikes 12 we are (or at least I am) all already too drunk to actually think why I was celebrating in the first place.

So a happy 2006 to everyone and I hope this one doesn't turn out to be as shitty as the last one.
